ND6 Designer NOT Backwards compatable!! ~Tate Chufootexikle 22.Jul.03 02:47 PM a Web browser Notes Client 6.0.2 CF1All Platforms
It's been said already in the responses. Designer is not backward compatible and I wouldn't expect it to be. Although I don't know enough about the on disk structure to say why. I would guess that the difference in structure and how the designer updates the db is different enough to cause some issues. The regular client is backward compatible. In the Designer 6 Dev book. Chapter 2 has a short seciton(2.9) on multi-version development. They don't tell you what could happen, just don't do it. Same issue for 4.6 > 5.0. In the upgrade designer class I took we were told not to touch a r4.6 db with a r5 designer client. I would imagine it be the same in r5 > r6 designer class(if I ever take it).
I do agree that Lotus/IBM should take more steps in informing developers. One class and one section in a book might not spread that information out far enough.
